Whenever I reach for the cheese at various dinner tables across France, people look at me quizzically, even a little incredulously. "But...you are American. Americans don't eat good French cheese. You eat [insert look of utter disdain and contempt] cheddar."
Au contraire mes amis, au contraire. I mean, we do eat cheddar (and good cheddar is delicious), but we love other cheese too. At least, in California we do. I snapped these photos in a Bay Area grocery store the last time I was home.
